Dear Aisling,
I can't believe you'd like to come to Florida in January for a gathering...
I live here in the Tampa Bay area and would love to have yo'all come down.
If you did I'd recommend Fort Desoto State Park right on the Gulf in St. Pete
Beach. Clearwater Beach or Honeymoon Island State Park are great also. My
only concern is that January is (with all due respect) the high season when
the (with all due respect) snow birds come down. Take it from a 20 year
resident...the best time to visit here is in the summer. Rates are low, the
food is still great and above all.. the gulf water temp is about 88 degrees.
And, it's a little known secret, but the weather ain't as bad as you've been
told!!! HA! HA! In any event... I'll be happy to plant 6 letterboxes and do
a southern barbecue, if yo'all come down. Kokopelli

Hi,
Okay, Florida in January sounds like a sublime time
& place for a gathering!
I'm waiting for the letterboxing.org website to be
back online so I can see which park would be the ideal setting for this.
I'd like to locate it around Orlando, or someplace central for people to get to
as a daytrip from most of Florida.
If anyone has suggestions, let me know! I'm
in Florida regularly in the "snowbird" season.
Cheerfully,
Aisling

Hi,
Once you're used to the Florida heat, summer may
not seem that bad, but I lived in Dunedin (just north of Clearwater) for three
years and vastly prefer the sunshine state in January.
In fact, I put on an arts event at DisneyWorld last
January, and it was gorgeous!
I know that January is hit-or-miss, but it's my
favorite time of year in Florida. And the crowds at the theme parks are
nearly as low as in that wonderful vacant time between Thanksgiving and
Yule/Christmas.
So, by all means, schedule a summertime
letterboxing/BBQ in St. Pete! It sounds fabulous! But I'll lean
towards January, and the middle of the state.
Cheerfully,
Ais
P1 F16 X37, and letterboxing again this
weekend!

Dear Ais,,,
I'm sorry, I seem to have rustled your feathers a bit , and that wasn't my
intent . Being that I live in Dunedin I have a pretty good sence of this
area and not of the Orlando area. You aked for input and that was mine. I'd
be happy to go to Orlando in January, if that's what is decided on.

Hi,
Nope, don't worry, no ruffled feathers. If
you do ruffle 'em, you'll know about it right away! *grin*
And I'm just proposing a gathering. If people
are interested, great. If not, really, it's just an idea! I'm eager
for more gatherings, lots of times and lots of places! And I'm
interested in popular/letterboxing locations in or near the middle of the state,
generally in the Orlando vicinity.
I'll be in Orlando in January anyway. After a
heat stroke (yep, that Florida heat!) I can't be out when it's over 80 degrees
very much, so Florida in January is usually jusssssst right, at Goldilocks
said!
We can talk about a gathering later in the year,
and see if that sounds like fun to others. I'll happily do the
organizing! I'll even teach a mini-class in carving rubber if there are
newbies who want to learn basics.
Cheerfully,
Aisling

Hi all,
Just into Letterboxing for about a month-had a GREAT time at Sleeping
Giant last weekend. We are moving to Central Florida from CT in a
couple of months, and would be glad to help with whatever
arrangements for a Gathering. Hoping Florida catches up with
Connecticut in boxes, it seems like an ideal climate for getting
outside year round (if you don't mind the gators, bugs, and looking
for boxes at 3:00AM in the summer).
Count us in.......

*LOL* Okay, anyone who calls me "young lady" is my friend for life. I'm
over 40, and I love it when someone thinks I'm younger!

Idea of a gathering in January sounds cool. I'm leaning towards the St Pete
end myself, only cause then I can stay with my brother so it'll be a bunch
cheaper to go. But, either way, post what you guys come up with, and I'll
see if I can make it down.

Yippee!
January is great, as the skeeters and ticks will likely be gone (most of my
boxes are in the woods).

Lucy...
I get such a kick out of "snow birds" who find every reason in the world why
not to come to Florida in the summer months... bugs, ticks, humidity, heat,
etc. etc. lol !!! read my lips... the summer is the best time to come! "And
we don't have to shovel it either" with reverent regards, Kokopelli
